MUSIC MAGAZINE: Double Page Spread Final

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Contents page final

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Final front cover

MUSIC MAGAZINE: DPS image choices

This was one of the options for my DPS music magazine, however I felt like her facial expression was serious and not positive which might contradict my pop music magazine so I decided to not use that image.

This picture was also very clear and focused however there was the same problem that she looked more down and unhappy. That is why I did not decide to use that image.

This image was the one that I used for my DPS as her facial expression was very positive and bright which would appeal to my target audience.

I liked this picture as the angle of gaze was directly towards the consumer, however when looking at real media text I saw that most double page spreads had close ups so I decided to not use this image.

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Evaluation Question 4

The audience for my media product would be teenagers aged between 16-19 +, the majority of the readers for my music magazine would be females as pop magazines are stereo-typically aimed at females, hence why I have chosen to use the colour pink as a feature colour as it would appeal to my audience. Another reason why the audience for my media product are young people aged between 16-19 is because the content featured on my magazine is specifically relevant to that age group. I also believe that the artists featured are consistently no.1 on the charts for pop music which makes them suitable for my magazine.

I recorded a video of me answering question 5: How did you attract/address your audience?

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Artist Interview

How did it all start?
It all started when I began my a-levels, the stress of school started to gradually pile on so then I had to find a way of releasing it. I always had a passion for music however I never invested time or effort into it. I then decided to use music as a way of helping me cope with the stress. My friends and I posted a cover of a song on YouTube as a joke, at first it was just another one of those unnoticed videos floating around. I had trouble expressing and communicating my feelings but then I realised that music is my voice. Then steadily the views started to increase, comments and likes increased as well as requests for more covers and it lit up from there!

How important are your fans for you?
My fans are my family. My family is everything to me, without them I would not be where I am today. I’d really like to meet them all one day but I’ll settle on the ones that cross my path in the meantime.

Writer's block can be a real issue, has it affected you?

At first it was an issue for me, I knew I wanted to write songs but I didn’t know how. I wanted my songs to have a message and be relatable for my fans. I didn’t want it to be too cheesy or the same style that has already been repeated. So I decided to write about my personal life or something I’ve seen that’s common between people.

What artists inspire you?
I look up to many artists, I respect all the artists out there in the music industry because it is not easy to get to the place that they’re at. Some of the artists I look up to are Rihanna, Daya, Hailee Steinfeld and Sia.

What are your future plans for your music career?
I never really intended to enter the music industry so I never really had a plan, I kind of just went with the ‘flow’. The only thing I knew for sure was that I enjoyed writing and performing songs. To be quite honest I’d have never thought that I would be releasing an album so soon and getting support from those close to me and those who have helped me achieve

Would you have done anything differently, if so how?
I wouldn’t have done anything differently as the actions and things I have done led me to the place that i’m at right now. However i’d like to tell anyone that’s reading this to not stress about the small things, and things that worry you now won’t even matter in a couple of years time.

What helps rejuvenate your creativity?
Staying creative is a hard thing to do, especially when you’re already struggling with what to write. I think that your attitude to what you do has a big impact on the outcome. Doing some sort of exercise usually helps me freshen up, however actually having to get up and motivate myself to do exercise is a whole new story.

Who would you like to collab with in the future?
In the future, if I got the chance to, I would like to collab with artists that have a different style as well as the same style of music to me. I want to collab with Cashmere Cat, Daya, The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd. I think mixing different styles of music would be a cool idea.

Tell us more about your style?
My style is a hard a question because to be honest I’m a mixture of all the styles, it really just depends on my mood and where I’m going. I think being comfortable is key however dressing it up a bit doesn’t hurt anyone.

What are you working on right now?
I don’t want to give too much away but I’m writing an album which is soon going to be released. Just keep an eye out on my social media networks.

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Audience Research Focus

This is a video showing a few questions that I have asked my focus group to help me with my research on making my music magazine. The questions I asked were specifically directed towards my focus group for my music magazine. I concentrated on what conventions and what features of a magazine appealed to them the most which would help me decide on what features I should include in my magazine.

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Research Rationale

Research Rationale

For my music magazine the target audience I have chosen are aged between 16-19, this is because I am mostly surrounded by teenagers aged between this age range which makes it easier for me to conduct my market research. I will use this to my advantage as I can learn and understand what types of artists my target audience listen to and what conventions are most popular and liked, by knowing this information I will know what to include in my magazine as I know what things in a magazine appeal to my target audience.

To conduct my research I am going to make a survey either by asking questions to a few people and filming it or I am going to ask people to fill out the surveys in order for me to know what I should and shouldn't add in my music magazine. I'll also look at music magazines that are sold in supermarkets, corner shops and retail stationery stores to see what types of magazines are sold and what types of magazines consumers mostly buy.

After I have completed all the research that is necessary I will have shown how and why I have chosen to do certain things and why I haven't included certain things in my magazine.

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Magazine Moodboards/Market Research

The above pictures present my research on 4 different music magazines from different music genres. The reason why I conducted this research was to give me an idea of what is included in a music magazine and what magazine conventions I should include when producing my final piece.

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Magazine Deconstruction

This is a post to show my deconstruction of a music magazine. Deconstructing the magazine was helpful as I realised what conventions and what different USPs magazines have so that consumers are more likely to buy their magazine.

MUSIC MAGAZINE: Audience Research General (Results)

I decided to ask this question as I would like to know what my target audience would be willing to pay for a magazine. Another reason why I asked this question was because I wouldn't want to overprice my magazine, this might lead to less consumers buying it. The majority of the people I asked chose the option '£0-£2', I will use this to help me decide on how much to price my magazine.
The reason why I asked this question was because I wanted to know what to focus on the most when designing and creating my music magazine. The option that most people chose was 'The model'. This means that I will most likely focus on the model as I would like to deliver a music magazine successfully while catering what they would like in a music magazine.

I asked this question as I wanted to see what type of magazine my target audience would go for as different magazines are styled differently, this gave me a rough idea of what and how the layout of my magazine should be like. Most of the magazines are for different genres of music, this helps me know what music genre I should base my music magazine on.

This question was a general question I asked to help me know how many times people bought magazines and if magazines were still frequently bought as a lot of music information is online.
I chose to ask this question as I wanted to know what my target audience mostly liked reading so I know what to use for my cover lines which incorporate both music information and the other things that were chosen the most.
