PRELIM TASK: Flat-plan vs. Contents Page Comparison

There are many changes and features that have stayed the same on my contents page. I have kept the layout roughly the same which shows that I have been using my flatplan for help and inspiration for designing my contents page.

I have kept the layout similar for my contents page as I wanted it simple and clear. I have placed 'CONTENTS' more to the left side as I wanted all of the text justified and I wouldn't be able to have it justified if it was more to the center of the page. I wrote 'Page Numbers' instead of "Page" as I got feedback from a teacher that it would look unprofessional if I wrote "contents page" so therefore I decided to change it to "Page Numbers". The type of shot of my model on my flatplan is a mid-shot but I decided to take a full shot of her sitting down feeling comfortable, relaxed and happy. I also decided that I wanted the masthead of my magazine at the bottom on my contents page as it is different, I thought this was suitable as it shows what magazine the contents page is part of, it wasn't in my flat plan as I never thought about including my masthead at the bottom of my contents page but I decided to add it in after I experimented where I wanted to place it on the contents page. I did some research and found out that most professional magazines have atleast 50 pages so therefore I decided to try and have close to 50 page numbers in total and I kept that the same in my flatplan aswell as my actual contents page.

PRELIM TASK: : Model Consent Forms

PRELIM TASK: Masthead manipulation

This is my masthead manipulation for my front cover magazine. In this picture it shows why I have chose the certain font and how it is suitable for my magazine

PRELIM TASK: Picture Manipulation

PRELIM TASK: Flatplan and front cover comparison

This is a comparison of my flatplan and my front cover.

Similarities
The similarities in both the flatplan and the frontcover is the masthead for the magazine also the masthead title is called 'CONTROL' in both. The layout is roughly the same apart from the captions on the left.

Differences
The pose of the model is different on the actual magazine front cover and so are the facial expressions. In the flatplan I put in a barcode but then realised that I wasn't going to put a price on my magazine so therefore I wouldn't need a barcode. I also added in a graphic to make the magazine have more features and adding the graphic made the magazine look more like a magazine.

PRELIM TASK: Contents page photo

This is the picture I used for my contents page. The reason why I chose this as my contents page is because I wanted a positive vibe for the contents page which encourages the reader and the buyer to buy it/read more. I have also used a college student so that the image correlates to my magazine and also gives off a more real feeling.

PRELIM TASK: Front Cover Photo

This is the picture I chose for my magazine front cover, The reason why I chose this picture as my front cover is because the theme for my magazine is mainly about dealing with stress, the model in my magazine has a slightly confused expression which anchors the magazine and the captions. Also the clothes he's wearing are good as they mainly have white and black with some navy blue at the bottom which allows me to choose from a variety of colours for my feature colours.

PRELIM TASK: flatplan front cover

This is my flatplan for my front cover of my magazine. I wanted my masthead to be big and bold so that it is readable and it catches attention. The feature colours for my magazine cover are orange, navy blue, white and black. The reason why I chose those as my feature colours is because the model for my magazine had navy blue on his tshirt and when I looked on the colourwheel I found out that orange compliments navy/green/blue colours the best, so therefore I chose to use orange. The reason why my magazine is layed out like that is because the picture of the model would be a midshot and the captions would be on the side to anchor the image.

PRELIM TASK: Shotlist

These are the shotlists for my front cover and contents page. In both shotlists I have included what the model will be doing and the mis-en-scene. I have drawn a variety of different positions so that I have a choice to choose from and I can experiment with different pictures and see which one fits my magazine and contents page the best.

PRELIM TASK: Reader profile

This is Maliea Black, she is currently in her first year at a sixth form. Maliea finds that there is a jump from GCSEs to A-Levels and is quite new to the feeling. She's been receiving increasing amounts of information and she is feeling quite anxious about exams, coursework and homework aswell as balancing her social life along with school life. Maleia is studying Chemistry, English Literature and Economics, she finds it hard to focus on other subjects as chemistry and english take up a lot of her time and there is also a lot more information to take in. However she enjoys studying the subjects as she has a passion for them, this is why I think that my magazine will help her out with her issues as my magazine talks about dealing with stressful situations regarding school and it also gives tips and advice relating to the theme of the magazine.

PRELIM TASK: Magazine Deconstruction

I deconstructed a Lana Del Rey Vogue magazine, I also analysed many features of the magazine in detail,by doing this it helped me identify different magazine it and it would help me for my preliminary task.
